Fr. Robert J. Spitzer, S.J., PhD is acting president of two of the six major national institutes he founded within the United States: the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, which produces documentaries, books, high school curricula, college courses, adult-ed curricula and web materials to show the close connection between faith and reason in contemporary astrophysics, philosophy and the historical study of the New Testament; and the Spitzer Center for Catholic Organizations which produces facilitated curricula to strengthen culture, faith and spiritual life in Catholic organizations. He is also the Chief Educational Officer for EPI (the Ethics and Performance Institute), which produces web-based education to corporations on personal efficacy, organizational culture, leadership and ethics.
Besides publishing a host of articles in scholarly journals, Fr. Spitzer has authored five books including New Proofs for the Existence of God: Contributions of Contemporary Physics and Philosophy, on which the course, In The Beginning is based.
He has received awards for teaching excellence at Georgetown University, Seattle University and Gonzaga University. He has taught courses on faith and reason, metaphysics, philosophy of God and philosophy of science to graduate and undergraduate students alike at the above mentioned institutions, and served as President of Gonzaga University for eleven years, completing his term in 2009.
